1. Go to **Settings** > **Privacy** 2. Find each content type setting 3. Choose your preferred visibility

Hiding Your Location▶
Control whether others can see where you attend games. Here's how location privacy works.
What Location Data is Shared
Without privacy settings, others might see: - Venues you've visited on your map - Addresses of stadiums in game details - Geographic distribution of your attendance
Enabling Location Hiding
1. Go to **Settings** > **Privacy** 2. Find **Hide Location** setting 3. Toggle it on 4. Save your settings
What Hiding Location Does
When enabled: - Your venue map may be hidden or generalized - Specific venue addresses aren't displayed to others - Your game list shows teams but may hide venues - Your profile doesn't reveal your geographic attendance pattern
What Still Shows
Even with location hidden: - Teams you've seen play (home and away) - Dates of games attended - Photos (if they don't reveal location) - Scores and game details
Game-by-Game Control
For specific games you want to keep private:
1. Open the game 2. Tap Edit 3. Set the game to Private 4. A private game hides all details from others
When to Use Location Privacy
Consider hiding location if: - You don't want others knowing where you'll be - You prefer not sharing your city or region - You attend games alone and value safety - You just want more privacy in general
Note on Photos
Photos you upload might contain location metadata. While the app doesn't display this, consider: - Stripping metadata from photos before uploading - Being mindful of recognizable landmarks in photos
Friend Tagging Permissions▶
Other users can tag you when you attend games together or mention you in posts. Here's how to control this.
Understanding Friend Tagging
When someone tags you: - You appear in their game as someone who attended - You're notified of the tag - The content may appear in your profile activity - Others can see you were there
Disabling Friend Tagging
If you don't want to be tagged:
1. Go to **Settings** > **Privacy** 2. Find **Allow Friend Tagging** 3. Toggle it off 4. Save your settings
What Happens When Disabled
With tagging disabled: - Others cannot add you to their games - Your name won't appear in tag searches when they're creating content - Existing tags remain until manually removed - You can still tag others (unless they've disabled it)
Removing Existing Tags
If you've been tagged and want to remove it:
1. Find the game or post where you're tagged 2. Look for options on your tag 3. Select remove/untag yourself 4. You're removed from that content
Who Can Tag You (When Enabled)
By default, people who can tag you: - Users you follow - Your followers - Potentially anyone (depending on other privacy settings)
Tagging and Privacy
Tags interact with your privacy settings: - If your account is private, tags may have limited visibility - If the tagger's content is public, the tag is public - Consider your comfort level with visibility
When to Disable Tagging
Consider turning off tags if: - You prefer complete control over your public presence - You attend games but don't want it broadcasted - You've had issues with unwanted tags - You value maximum privacy
Account Security Best Practices▶
Protect your Memory Row account and your sports memories. Follow these security practices.
Strong Password
If you signed up with email: - Use a unique password not used elsewhere - Include letters, numbers, and symbols - Make it at least 12 characters - Don't use obvious info like team names or birthdays
Apple Sign-In Security
If you use Sign in with Apple: - Your account is protected by Apple's security - Two-factor authentication from Apple applies - No separate password to remember - Very secure option
Recognizing Phishing
Be cautious of: - Emails claiming to be from Memory Row asking for your password - Messages from other users asking for account details - Links to fake login pages - Anyone asking you to share your credentials
Memory Row will never ask for your password via email or message.
Keeping Your Email Secure
Your account email is important for: - Password recovery - Account notifications - Verification
Make sure your email account is also secure.
Session Management
Periodically: - Log out of devices you no longer use - Check for unfamiliar login activity - Update your password if you suspect issues
Reporting Security Concerns
If you think your account was compromised: 1. Change your password immediately 2. Check for changes you didn't make 3. Contact support through the Help Center 4. Review recent activity for unauthorized actions
Privacy Supports Security
Strong privacy settings also help security: - A private account limits exposure - Hidden location protects your whereabouts - Controlled tagging limits your visibility
General Tips
- Don't share your account with others
- Log out on shared devices
- Keep the app updated for security patches
- Use device security (Face ID, passcode)
FAMILY & PARENTAL CONTROLS
Linking parent and teen accounts, what's visible, and managing DM controls
Approving or denying your teen's account▶
When your teen registers with your email as their parent contact, we reach you two ways: by email and (if you already have a Memory Row account) by push notification.
How you'll hear about it
**Email.** You'll receive a "Parental Consent Request" email at the address your teen entered. The email has a single button that opens the approval screen — in the Memory Row app if you have it installed, otherwise on the web at memoryrow.xyz.
**Push notification.** If you already have a Memory Row account and the app installed on your device, you'll also get a push: *"[Teen's name] is waiting for your approval to use Memory Row."* Tapping it jumps straight to the approval screen.
The approval screen
You'll see:
- Your teen's first name, last name, age, and username
- Two buttons: **Approve** or **Deny**
**Approve** activates their account. If you already have a Memory Row account, your teen is automatically linked to you and appears in My Family.
**Deny** immediately deletes their account and revokes all sessions. They can register again later if they choose.
What happens if you don't decide
Consent requests stay valid for **48 hours**. If you don't approve or deny in that window, the teen's account moves to a limited-access pending state and they'll need you to take action before they can use the app.
Need to revoke later?
Approving doesn't lock you in. You can unlink your teen anytime from **Settings → My Family**. To revoke approval before the 48-hour window via support, email [email protected].
Linking a teen account to yours▶
When your teen has an active Memory Row account, you can link it to yours so they appear in **Settings → My Family**. There are two ways this happens.
1. Auto-link through the consent flow
When your teen signs up themselves, they enter your email as their parent contact. We email you a consent request. When you tap **Approve**, if your email matches an existing Memory Row account, we automatically link the teen's account to yours. Nothing else for you to do.
2. Manual link from My Family
If you already have a Memory Row account and your teen has an active one (for example, they were approved through consent before your account existed), you can link them from:
**Settings → My Family → Link Existing Teen**
Enter the teen's username and confirm. We verify that your account email matches the parent email they entered at registration before establishing the link — so you can't link a stranger's teen by guessing usernames.
After linking
Your teen appears in My Family. Tap their name to see their activity, purchases, and DM settings. The full disclosure of what's shared is in [What you can see for a linked teen](/faq/family-parental-controls/what-you-can-see-for-a-linked-teen).
A few limits
- One parent account per teen at a time. (Co-parents who want shared visibility should pick one account.)
- Multiple teens can be linked to a single parent account.
- The link dissolves automatically when the teen turns 18 — see [When parental oversight ends](/faq/family-parental-controls/when-parental-oversight-ends).
What you can see for a linked teen▶
When you link a teen account to yours, Memory Row gives you visibility into what they're doing — but not unrestricted access. Here is exactly what is and isn't shared.
What you can see
**Profile basics** — name, username, and age.
**Activity** — games attended (date, venue, teams, score), badges earned, and aggregate counts (games attended, distinct venues, badges).
**Purchases** — full in-app purchase history, including each product name, category, dollar amount, transaction date, and a running total of money spent.
**Direct messaging settings** — whether DMs are enabled, whether they're restricted to an approved-contacts list, and the contents of that approved-contacts list.
**Message activity summary** — total open conversations, total messages sent and received, and a list of usernames they've messaged with per-contact message counts.
What you cannot see
- **The contents of any direct messages.** We never share the text of teens' messages with their parents.
- Their password, login codes, or session tokens.
- Anything that would let you post, comment, or message as them.
What you can change
- Toggle whether your teen's DMs are enabled at all.
- Turn approved-contacts mode on or off.
- Add or remove approved contacts from their list.
- Unlink the teen account anytime (they keep their account; you lose visibility).
You cannot change their privacy settings, their profile, or any of their content.
The teen's side
Your teen sees the same disclosure from their end on a **Linked Parent** screen in Settings — they always know what's visible to you. See the teen-side article [How your parent sees your account](/faq/family-parental-controls/how-your-parent-sees-your-account).
For the full disclosure language, see our [Privacy Policy](/legal/privacy-policy) Section 3.6 and [Terms of Service](/legal/terms) Section 1.5.
Managing your teen's DMs▶
You have three layers of control over your teen's direct messages: whether DMs work at all, whether they're restricted to approved contacts, and who's on that approved list.
Get there
**Settings → My Family → [Teen's name] → DM Settings**
Whether DMs are enabled
A simple on/off switch. When off, your teen cannot send or receive any direct messages.
Approved-contacts mode
When this toggle is **on**, your teen can only DM with people you've explicitly approved. Anyone else trying to DM them is blocked at the server.
When **off**, their DMs follow the normal teen rules: they can message anyone who falls within their default DM-audience setting (typically *followers only* for teens).
The approved-contacts list
When approved-contacts mode is on, manage who's allowed from the **Approved Contacts** screen:
**Add a contact.** Tap the **+** in the top right, enter their username, and confirm.
**Remove a contact.** Tap the X next to their entry.
The list is invisible to non-approved users; from their side it just looks like the teen isn't accepting DMs.
What your teen sees
Your teen knows you can see who they message and how often — that disclosure is on their **Linked Parent** screen. They cannot see the approved-contacts list from their settings; only you manage it.
Visibility, not content
You see **message metadata** (who they're messaging, how often). You do not see **message contents**. If you have a safety concern that you believe requires reading messages, contact [email protected].
How your parent sees your account▶
If your account is linked to a parent's Memory Row account, you can always check what they can see by opening **Settings → Linked Parent**. This article walks through everything that's visible to them.
What your parent can see
**Profile basics** — your name, username, and age. (No different from any other user.)
**Activity** — games you've attended (date, venue, teams, score), badges you've earned, and totals like games attended and venues visited.
**Purchases** — every in-app purchase you've made: what you bought, how much you spent, when, and a running total.
**DM settings** — whether your DMs are enabled, whether you're restricted to an approved-contacts list, and (if you are) the list itself.
**Who you message and how often** — a list of usernames you've DM'd, the total number of conversations you have open, and how many messages you've sent and received per contact.
What your parent cannot see
- **The text of your messages.** No DM contents are ever shared with parents — only counts and contact usernames.
- Your password or login info.
- The ability to post, comment, or message as you.
What your parent can change
They can enable or disable DMs, turn approved-contacts mode on or off, and manage your approved-contacts list. They cannot change your privacy settings, your profile, or any of your content.
Seeing who's linked to you
The **Linked Parent** screen in Settings shows your parent's name and handle so you always know who's connected to your account.
When this ends
Parental oversight ends automatically the day you turn 18 — no action needed from you or your parent. See [When parental oversight ends](/faq/family-parental-controls/when-parental-oversight-ends) for the full breakdown.
Concerns?
If you're worried about the link or how it's being used, email [email protected].
When parental oversight ends▶
Parental oversight on Memory Row is time-bound. It ends automatically when you turn 18 — no action required from you or your parent.
What happens on your 18th birthday
A daily system job dissolves the parent-teen link the moment you reach 18. All of the following happens automatically:
- **The link is severed.** Your account is no longer linked to your parent's. You disappear from their My Family screen.
- **Your parent loses all visibility.** They can no longer see your activity, purchases, DM contacts, or message counts.
- **Parent-set DM restrictions are cleared.** If your parent had approved-contacts mode on, it's turned off. The approved-contacts list itself is deleted.
- **Your DM default returns to the adult setting.** "Everyone" replaces the stricter teen default.
You don't need to do anything. The next time you open the app, the **Linked Parent** entry in Settings will be gone.
What stays the same
- Your account, your data, your followers, your collections, your trading cards, your badges, your purchase history — none of these are affected. You keep everything.
- Your username doesn't change.
- Your parent gets a one-time notification that the link has ended; that's it.
Can your parent unlink earlier?
Yes. Your parent can unlink anytime from their My Family screen. The same things happen as the 18th-birthday auto-unlink, just earlier.
Can you unlink earlier?
There's no in-app button for teens to initiate unlinking. If you have safety concerns about the link, email [email protected] — we'll verify and unlink case by case. You can also delete your account at any time, which removes the link as a side effect.
After 18
You become a regular adult user. You can update privacy settings, change your default DM audience, and use Memory Row exactly like any other 18+ account.

Photos Not Uploading▶
Having trouble uploading photos? Here are common causes and solutions.
Check Your Connection
Photos require a stable internet connection: - Switch between WiFi and cellular to test - Move to an area with better signal - Wait if you're in a crowded venue with slow data
Photo Access Permissions
Memory Row needs permission to access your photos:
1. Go to your device **Settings** 2. Scroll to **Memory Row** 3. Tap **Photos** 4. Select **All Photos** or **Selected Photos**
If set to "None," the app can't access your camera roll.
Photo Size Issues
Very large photos may have trouble: - Photos over 20MB may fail - Try selecting a different photo - Screenshots are usually smaller and upload well
Storage Space
Low device storage can cause issues: - Check available space in Settings > General > iPhone Storage - Free up space if needed - Close other apps to free up memory
App Issues
Try these steps:
1. **Close and reopen the app** - Swipe up to close Memory Row - Open it again and retry
2. **Restart your device** - Turn your phone off and on - Try uploading again
3. **Update the app** - Check the App Store for updates - Install any available updates
Still Not Working?
If photos still won't upload: 1. Note what happens (error message, spinning, etc.) 2. Try a different photo to test 3. Contact support with details about the issue
Tips for Success
- Upload photos when on stable WiFi
- Avoid uploading during games (venues often have poor signal)
- Add photos later if you're having trouble at the event

Focus Mode / Do Not Disturb

If nothing else works:

Note on Game Day Reminders
Game day notifications are sent around 9:00 AM on the game date. If you marked attendance after that time, you may not receive the reminder for that game.
Note for Parents
If your teen registers with your email and you already have a Memory Row account, you'll get a "Consent Request" push within seconds. If you don't, check the in-app **Notifications** settings above and confirm system notifications are enabled. The email arrives either way as a backup.
Testing Notifications
After adjusting settings: - Have a friend like or comment on your post - The notification should appear within a few minutes - If it works, your settings are correct

Automatic Venue Detection▶
Memory Row can automatically detect when you''re near a sports venue and make it easier to log your game.
How It Works
When you have location services enabled, the app checks if you''re within approximately 500 meters of a known sports venue. If a match is found, you''ll see a banner at the top of the screen.
The Venue Detection Banner
When the app detects you''re at a venue, a banner appears showing:
- "You''re at [Venue Name]"
- The teams playing today (if a game is scheduled)
- A **LOG THIS GAME** button
Tap the button to start the game check-in with your venue and game details pre-filled, saving you time.
Enabling Location Services
For venue detection to work:
1. Go to your device **Settings** 2. Scroll to **Memory Row** 3. Tap **Location** 4. Select **While Using the App** or **Always**
Supported Venues

Privacy
- Location data is used only for venue detection within the app
- You can disable location services at any time in your device settings
- If you have **Hide Location** enabled in your privacy settings, your location won''t be shared with other users
